Book Drop Opening

After 12 weeks of being on “pause” due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the library staff is excited to finally be opening our book drop to receive borrowed materials beginning on Monday, June 15th.  The library book drop will be open for materials to be dropped off between the hours of 8 am and 7 pm.  Staff will be working inside the library quarantining all materials and developing protocols and procedures for our modified service plan.

For your safety and the health of the community, we ask that you wear a face mask and follow social distancing rules when dropping off items to the drop. There are hundreds of items that will need to be returned, so the book drop may get very busy!  Wearing a mask and following social distancing rules will help ensure the safety of all community members.

We also ask that you return your books to the drop between the hours of 8 am and 7 pm.  This is to ensure that the book drop does not become overstuffed.  If you should visit the drop and realize it is full, please refrain from adding your items. Adding items to a full drop can cause the drop to get jammed and materials to be damaged.  Also, please do not put items outside of the drop.  If they are not able to go inside the drop, they may be stolen or become ruined due to the elements.  All items that were not already outstanding before March 14th have been given an extended due date, so there is no need to worry about returning them the first or second day the book drop is opened.

For any patron who is in possession of an item that is too big and bulky or fragile to fit in the drop (ex: guitar), please make an appointment for us to pick it up from the tailgate of your car while parked in the library’s parking lot.  Please call us at 315-986-5932 or email the director at macedonlibrarydirector@owwl.org to make these arrangements.

We will be receiving book returns for two weeks prior to implementing a modified service plan on Monday, June 29th.  At that time, patrons will be able to order books and media and we will deliver these items to the tailgate of the patron’s vehicle while parked in the library’s parking lot.  An online form is being created for this purpose and we will be releasing more information soon on how to order books and other media.

Beginning the week of June 29th, we will also be accepting print job orders.  The process for having items printed, copied or faxed will be announced soon, too.

Finally, for those in need of a computer, we will offer computer appointments beginning the week of June 29th.  Appointments will be made by calling the library in advance.  A turn using a library laptop will be limited to one hour of use.

More information on our modified service plan will be forthcoming.

We sincerely thank the community for its patience as we prepare to resume services during this extremely unique time.  The library board and staff are moving very cautiously and thoughtfully in an effort to be highly mindful of the health and safety of everyone.
