Studies have shown that reading aloud can help children to gain more mastery over their reading skills. It’s great practice for them—and fun besides! At Macedon Library, we offer children the chance to read aloud to a perfect companion: a non-judgmental, loving dog who is happy to sit there with your child and accept all pets and head scratches while being read to. These dogs are well-socialized animals who are training to become guide dogs for those with disabilities. They are calm, relaxed, and not threatening in any way.

There’s no need to sign up and no fee for this program. Just stop by at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday with your child(ren) and we’ll direct you to one of the dogs who, with their handler, is just waiting to hear the latest in children’s literature, read by your child.
