Awarded by the American Library Association, the Newbery Medal is the most prestigious award for children’s literature in the U.S., and is given only to the year’s finest book. We invite your children, ages third grade and up, to join in the Macedon Library’s Newbery Challenge.
Sign-up materials can be found in the library, on top of the bookcase near the children’s section. You’ll fill out a yellow card with your name and other information and leave that with us. Take home a reader’s log and check out some Newbery winners in our special Newbery section, near the Discovery Room. If you have Newbery winners in your home library, it’s fine if your child reads those, as well.
When your child has logged in and read six Newbery books, return the completed log to us by August 10. Then you and your child are invited to attend our August 13th pizza party, where there will be prizes for all the readers.
Your Newbery challenge books can also count toward the “Libraries Rock!” promotion, so your child is eligible for small prizes and weekly drawings.
NOTE: You must register your child before July 2 to participate in this challenge!
