I am very pleased to officially announce that Macedon Public Library has been awarded funding to purchase a Glowforge 3D Laser Printer thanks to a Pioneer Library System 2017 Leading Edge Technology Grant.
The Glowforge is a leading edge technology tool. This printer democratizes laser cutting technology and gives community members the ability to cut and engrave a variety of materials. This printer will provide a means to produce such items as: prototypes for inventions, original craft designs, customized engravings, and custom designed teaching aids.
We also previously received a grant that permitted the purchase of two Wacom digital tablets. These can be used by artists and designers to create digital files that can translate into items for use with the Glowforge. It is worth noting that even hand-drawn designs can be scanned and used with this printer, so although the use of the tablets can produce a high quality design, it is not necessary. Children and those who dislike using the digital tablet will be able to use it as readily as a person who prefers using the tablet.
I am very excited about this new equipment and will be ordering the printer today. This technology is so new it will take some time before we actually receive it. In the meantime, all library staff will be trained on how to use the Wacom tablets. Once the Glowforge arrives, staff will also be trained on how to use the printer, too. We want to be comfortable using these tools because we want to make sure we will be able to help you when you come to the library to use them.
I also am very excited just thinking about all the programs we will be able to offer to people of all ages that will be possible because of these powerful, new tools! We will only be limited by our imaginations!
