COMING SOON (hopefully by Friday): Sign your child(ren) up to do 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten! This is a super fun program for parents to do with their child before kindergarten. Start your child as young as an infant on up to a few years old. Children will get to move through our giant caterpillar mural painted in the Discovery Room.

HOW IT WORKS: For every 50 books read, the child will advance to a new segment of the caterpillar (there are 20 segments to advance through). We have the cutest log sheets for kids and parents to keep track of their reading; there is a log sheet with smiling lady bugs and another with dancing spiders! Every time 50 books are read, parents will bring the child and the sheet to the library to have their child’s “marker” on the caterpillar moved to a new segment AND to check out more good books!

Those who read 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten will be given a butterfly to decorate and it will be hung in the library for all to see! Best of all, their “marker” will be made from a photo of their face (no name attached). If they complete the goal of 1,000 Books, their face will be adhered to this special butterfly to mark their transformation!

Please, stay tuned for more information on how to sign up your child for this great program. Also, if you are a parent or a teacher of little ones, please help me spread the word about this awesome program. We want every child to participate and have a great start to kindergarten, so please spread the word about this far and wide. THANKS!*

*Very special thanks go out to Pioneer Library System for giving us the funding to purchase various materials (such as paint) needed to do this.  Also a very special thanks to local artist, Rand Darrow, who painted the caterpillar in the style of Eric Carle’s Very Hungry Caterpillar!
