If you frequently use the hold option to locate and select books online for pickup later, you probably know that we have had a cabinet where holds were housed near the circulation desk in the library. We’ve updated that, however, and the cabinet has been replaced by a smaller shelving unit that is located near where the cabinet was.

If you’ve never used our hold option, it can be a great way to search for the latest hot novel or find just the right self-help book. How does it work? Simple. Go to the online OWWL catalog, which shows books that are in the Macedon Public Library as well as other libraries within the OWWL network. Browse at your leisure. Even when the libraries are closed, the online catalog is ready for you to use!
When you see a book that you’d like to reserve, click on the book to bring you to its catalog entry. There, you can read a summary and see which libraries own it and whether it’s checked out or not. On the right, there is a button to place a hold on the book. Even if it’s currently checked out, you can reserve it so that it will come to you as soon as it returns to the library.
When you click the “place hold” button, you’ll be asked to sign in to your account if you haven’t done so already. This is easy and involves inputting your library card number. Follow the simple directions, and the book will be placed on hold for you. When it’s available, it will be sent to Macedon, if we don’t already own it, and we’ll put it on the hold shelves. Next time you come in, you can check it out and take it with you.
If you’ve never reserved a book on hold, we hope you’ll take advantage of this service, which allows you to access the broader catalog of books available throughout our four-county operating area. Questions? Ask anyone at the circ desk, and they can walk you through it.
