Macedon Public Library is far more than just books! Recently, we added a new resource called OER Commons (OER stands for Open Educational Resources). You can access this resource by going to the Macedon Public Library website, clicking on Helpful Resources in the main menu, and then scrolling down and clicking on “OER Commons: Free, Online Educational Resources.” Or, as a shortcut, just click HERE.
OER Commons is a public digital library of open educational resources. You can explore, create, and collaborate with educators around the world to improve curriculum. At OER Commons, you’ll find videos and lessons on a broad range of subjects: learn to speak Spanish or study law; brush up on your calculus skills or explore a career in the culinary arts. There are literally thousands of options available for you.
One benefit of this platform is that you can search by your skill level. If you’re interested, for example, in a beginner’s guide to the history of women’s suffrage, you’ll find it easily. If you’re looking for professional or graduate school-focused courses in life sciences, those can be found as well.
The format of these courses range from short, three-minute lessons to more extensive videos and white papers on a variety of topics. Why not check it out? This resource can be accessed from any computer with internet access—you don’t need to be at the library—and it is free and available for all. Take a look and enjoy expanding your horizons today!
