The Macedon Public Library Board of Trustees has voted to open the library for in-person visits. There will be several computers available that may be used for one hour. The Discovery Room is still closed. We ask you to keep your visit short, as we will only be allowing in up to ten people at a time. We will continue to offer “Grab and Go” services for those who prefer to place their books on hold online and then pick them up in the cabinet outside the library.
Here are a few of the new books that have come in to the library recently. We invite you to check them out!
Governor
For more than fifty years, the Terran Republic and the Terran League have been killing one another. But the members of the Five Hundred, the social elite of the Republic’s Heart Worlds, don’t care. Rear Admiral Terrence Murphy is a Heart Worlder. His family is part of the Five Hundred. There is no end to how high he can rise in the Republic’s power structure. All he has to do is successfully complete a risk-free military “governorship” in the backwater Fringe System of New Dublin without rocking the boat. But the people sending him to New Dublin have miscalculated, because Terrence Murphy is a man who believes in honor. He intends to put a stop to the killing. Terrence Murphy is coming for whoever has orchestrated fifty-six years of bloodshed and slaughter, and Hell itself is coming with him.
Cursed Luck
Kennedy Bennett comes from a long line of curse weavers. She has recently struck out on her own, opening an antiques shop in Boston, where her speciality is uncursing and reselling hexed objects. Then Aiden Connolly walks into her life with an offer she really should refuse. The scion of a wealthy family of luck workers, Aiden has a scheme to get his hands on the most famous cursed object of all: the mythical Necklace of Harmonia. He’s not the only one after the necklace, though. And he’s not the only one looking for a curse weaver to fix it. Kennedy’s sisters are kidnapped, and she finds herself plunged into the underbelly of the magical world where even Aiden is in over his head.
Heaven
Hailed as a bold foray into new literary territory, Kawakami’s novel is told in the voice of a 14-year-old student subjected to relentless torment for having a lazy eye. Instead of resisting, the boy chooses to suffer in complete resignation. The only person who understands what he is going through is a female classmate who suffers similar treatment at the hands of her tormenters. These raw and realistic portrayals of bullying are counterbalanced by textured exposition of the philosophical and religious debates concerning violence to which the weak are subjected.
