New DVDs: Friday, April 23

The library currently has two ways to borrow books: “Grab and Go” service allows you to choose your books online in the online catalog (you’ll need to log into your account to place a hold on the books you want). Staff members will pull them and leave them in the cabinet outside the library doors. You can find more detailed instructions here. We are also allowing appointments for in-person browsing for individuals or families. If you’d like to make an appointment to browse in person, call us at 315-986-5932.

Here are a few more of the new videos we’ve received lately:

The Body Brokers

Utah and Opal are two young junkies living on the streets of a small Ohio town, robbing convenience stores and hooking in order to fund their habits. One day, while hanging out, they meet Wood, a guy who recognizes their lifestyle all too well, buys them lunch, and offers to help them get into a treatment program so that they can clean up their lives as he himself did several years earlier. Opal spurns the offer but Utah, who has been having second thoughts about the life he has been living, agrees to give it a shot. Wood flies him out to Los Angeles and gets him into a rehab center. With the help of a counsellor and the support of aide May, he begins the slow road to recovery. But a new breed of scam artist has arrived on the scene to grab as much money as possible by getting patients into the beds at rehab clinics by any means necessary where their insurance can be billed for outrageous costs ($2,000 for a simple urine test) that they, and sometimes the patients themselves, will receive kickbacks on. Wood is one of these so-called “body brokers” and brings the recovered Utah into the game.

Crisis

Three stories about the world of opioids collide: a drug trafficker arranges a multi-cartel Fentanyl smuggling operation between Canada and the U.S., an architect recovering from an OxyContin addiction tracks down the truth behind her son’s involvement with narcotics, and a university professor battles unexpected revelations about his research employer, a drug company with deep government influence bringing a new non-addictive painkiller to market.
