One of our most successful programs, Puppy Tales brings together children who need reading practice with young dogs training to be guide animals. The children get the chance to read out loud in a supportive environment and the dogs get valuable socialization practice. A win-win! The dogs are all very well-behaved and not threatening at all, and they seem to love to spend time snuggled next to the kids while being read to. There’s no fee, and no need to reserve a space—just show up, have your children pick out a book they’d like to read, and find one of the dogs that will be stationed throughout the library.
