What was life like for women during the early days of our country? Did they face the same challenges women today face? The same joys? Dr. Laura Free, an associate professor of history at Hobart and William Smith Colleges and a dynamic lecturer, will explore these questions in this major presentation funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Gilder Lehrman Foundation.
Dr. Free will use primary sources from the founding era for her presentation, and you’ll have access to the same sources in a special primer, filled with first-person accounts, that may be borrowed from the library. Dr. Free will lead discussion on the issues relevant to women during the founding era in relation to our current times, to explore possible connections between the women of the 1700s and our own lives today.
This event is free and open to the public. No registration is necessary.
