Ipod Shuffles Available

The Macedon Public Library, 30 W. Main St., will offer patrons five iPod Shuffles preloaded with songs spanning five decades of popular music.

The library received a grant offered by Pioneer Library System aimed at aiding libraries in implementing new technologies to improve patron services.

The Shuffles are targeted at patrons with memory challenges resulting from any form of dementia such as Alzheimer’s disease. Research has shown the part of the brain responsible for processing music is often not affected by the multitude of tangles preventing accurate processing of electrical impulses in other parts of the brain. In many cases, listening to music can stimulate gateways previously closed to become opened, leading to an increased ability to retrieve and communicate prior memories.

The Shuffles will be available for a one-week loan period with the option to renew for an additional week. All Pioneer Library System cardholders will be able to borrow the Shuffles.
