FREE—No reservation needed!

On this grey, rainy, slushy, cold winter day, doesn’t a trip abroad sound like a good idea? We’ve got you covered. Macedon Public Library, in collaboration with NYS and Wayne County Department of Aging and Youth, is offering an armchair tour tomorrow to the lovely and romantic city of Heidelberg, Germany.

Heidelberg is nestled in the southwestern region of Germany along the Neckar River. Surrounded by the lush Odenwald forest, the city is dominated by the majestic Heidelberg Castle, overlooking a picturesque valley where the medieval Old Town (Altstadt) stretches along the riverbank.

The city’s history stretches back to 1196, when it first emerged as a small settlement under the protection of the mighty Castle. Throughout centuries of prosperity, wars, and renaissance, Heidelberg has maintained its status as a beacon of intellectual and cultural achievement.

On our virtual walking tour, we’ll discover the enchanting Old Town of Heidelberg. Let’s explore the cobblestone streets that have witnessed centuries of history, from the medieval Market Square (Marktplatz) with its beautiful Renaissance town hall to the historic student prison that tells tales of university life from centuries past. We’ll visit the impressive Church of the Holy Spirit, marvel at the famous Old Bridge with its medieval bridge gate, and learn about the distinctive student fraternity houses that still maintain centuries-old traditions.

This event is open to all and free of charge. Stop by tomorrow and join us as we experience this dynamic and vibrant city!
