Rose Signs Good Night!

In the board book Rose Signs Good Night!, Rose Ayling-Ellis is the star of the story, sharing her own experiences and very special message with her youngest generation of readers and listeners. Baby Rose and Kitten Casper share and sign their bedtime routine, which is full of fun and healthy habits for little ones developing a love of books. Whether children need to or want to learn the basics of ASL, or parents are simply trying to get their children into good routines, this is the perfect place to start. For ages 2-5.

Meena and the Microbiome

After the last drop of rain falls, Meena and her mom head outside to their garden, which is bursting with veggies and flowers. But it isn’t the produce that Meena is curious about. It’s the microbes in the soil (giving it that earthy smell), in the compost pile, in our bodies—everywhere!—that have Meena wondering. How do they live? What do they eat? Where did Meena’s own microbiome come from? Comparing microbe communities to a bustling city, where everyone has a job to do, Meena’s scientist mom answers her questions while they garden, gather vegetables for a neighbor, have a snack at the picnic table, and end the day with a sudsy bath. For ages 5-7.

Band Nerd (graphic novel)

For twelve-year-old Lucy Carver, music isn’t just a way of life, it’s an escape from homework and an off-key homelife with her alcoholic father. When Lucy starts seventh grade at Windley School of the Arts, with its high academic standards and even higher artistic expectations, it becomes much harder to keep life in tune. As things spiral out of control with her parents and her schoolwork, Lucy grows desperate for a win and focuses all her energy on beating snobby Tolli Claybourne for first chair flute. But just when she thinks she’s hitting all the right notes, an accident leaves Lucy unable to play, and her mother threatens to withdraw her for poor grades. Now Lucy must choose: sabotage Tolli or give up on her dream. For ages 8-12.
