It’s Her Story: Mae Jemison
A graphic novel for children ages 7 to 10. Mae Jemison was the first Black woman to go to space. She is an astronaut, doctor, engineer, writer, teacher, and dancer. Her adventurous spirit has taken her from healing people around the world, to dancing on stage, to orbiting the earth on the space shuttle Endeavour. In all her work, she inspires others to follow their curiosity, believe in themselves, and reach for the stars. This is her story.

The Legacy of Luna: The Story of a Tree, A Woman, and the Struggle to Save the Redwoods
On December 18, 1999, Julia Butterfly Hill descended from “Luna,” a thousand-year-old redwood in California. Hill had climbed 180 feet up into the tree on December 10, 1997, for what she thought would be a two- to three-week-long “tree-sit.” The action was intended to stop Pacific Lumber from the environmentally destructive process of clear-cutting the ancient redwood and the trees around it. The twenty-five-year-old never planned to become what some have called her—the Rosa Parks of the environmental movement. Although her brave vigil and indomitable spirit have made her a heroine in the eyes of many, Julia’s story is a simple, heartening tale of love, conviction, and the profound courage she has summoned to fight for our earth’s legacy.

The Lilac People
In 1932 Berlin, a trans man named Bertie and his friends spend carefree nights at the Eldorado Club, the epicenter of Berlin’s thriving queer community. But everything changes when Hitler rises to power. Bertie barely escapes with his girlfriend, Sofie, to a nearby farm. There they take on the identities of an elderly couple and live for more than a decade in isolation. In the final days of the war, Bertie and Sofie find a young trans man collapsed on their property, still dressed in Holocaust prison clothes. They vow to protect him—not from the Nazis, but from the Allied forces who are arresting queer prisoners while liberating the rest of the country.
