If you’ve ever headed back to the Macedon Public Library’s Makerspace area, you may have noticed a small yellow hutch near the window. That unassuming piece of furniture is the Macedon Seed Library.

What’s a seed library? Simply put, it’s like a regular library in that you check out items, at no cost, for your use. But instead of books, the seed library has—seeds. Seeds for flowers, seeds for vegetables, and seeds for herbs. You are welcome to take a few envelopes of seeds (please limit it to three or four per visit, so there’s enough for everyone) that you can plant them in you garden and reap the tasty—or pretty—harvest.
What’s the catch? There is none! The seeds are free, and are fresh for 2025 use. In return, we ask you to consider saving seed from one or two plants and returning them to the library at the end of the season. Or, if you have leftover seed packets from within the last year, consider donating them so that others can benefit.

The seeds are all in labeled packages, with directions either on the back or tucked inside. There’s no need to check them out at the desk—just take what you’d like and think you can use, being careful to only take as many as you have the time and energy to plant.
These seeds are available courtesy of the help of the Friends of the Macedon Public Library. We hope they bring you enjoyment!
