Need something fun to read this week? The Macedon Public Library can help! Stop by and pick up something interesting to keep you engaged. We will continue to offer “Grab and Go” services for those who prefer to place their books on hold online and then pick them up in the cabinet inside the library.
Here are a few of the new books that have arrived at the library recently. We invite you to check them out!
In the Hour of Crows
In a small town in Appalachia, people paint their doorways blue to keep spirits away. Black ferns grow where death will follow. And Weatherly Opal Wilder is a Death Talker. When called upon, she can talk the death out of the dying and save their lives — only once, never twice. Weatherly’s cousin Adaire also has a gift: she’s a Scryer and can see the future reflected back in dark surfaces. Right before she is killed in an accident, Adaire saw something unnerving. With the help of clues Adaire left behind and her family’s Granny Witch recipe box, Weatherly sets out to find the truth behind her cousin’s death, whatever it takes.
Sentinel
Josh Duffy lives by a simple code: Duty. Honor. Family. But sometimes it’s hard to know what order the words go in. Josh Duffy and his wife, Nikki, work for the State Department’s Diplomatic Security Service, protecting diplomats in the field. They and their two children have been posted to Ghana, the most stable democracy in western Africa. But that stability proves to be fleeting. A Chinese plan to overthrow the Ghanaian government brings Josh face-to-face with a particularly malignant ghost from his past. He knows his duty. His honor requires he fulfill it. But will his family pay the price?
Dog Day Afternoon
Retired lawyer Andy Carpenter has run the Tara Foundation — the dog rescue organization named after his beloved golden retriever — for years. His investigator, Marcus Clark, has been at Andy’s side for a long time. So it’s a shock when Marcus arrives at the Tara Foundation with two strangers in tow. Turns out Marcus takes disadvantaged young men under his wing and gets them jobs, a place to live, and a chance at a different life. And they want a dog. Andy’s specialty. One of the young men, Nick Williams, instantly falls in love with one of the dogs, Daisy. When there’s a mass shooting at Nick’s work, leaving six dead, all signs point to Nick. Marcus, who’s never asked Andy for anything, asks Andy for help.
