If you frequently read fiction books, you might want to consider a nonfiction text for a change of pace. The library is constantly receiving new nonfiction and biography books, including the items below. Why not stop by and check out a book, CD, movie, or other material that you find interesting. We will continue to offer “Grab and Go” services for those who prefer to place their books on hold online and then pick them up in the cabinet inside the library.
Here are a few of the new nonfiction books that have arrived at the library recently. We invite you to check them out!
The Underworld: Journeys to the Depths of the Ocean
An awe-inspiring portrait of the mysterious world beneath the waves. For all of human history, the deep ocean has been a source of wonder and terror that evoked a singular, compelling question: What’s down there? But now, cutting-edge technologies allow explorers to dive miles beneath the surface, and we are beginning to understand this strange and exotic underworld: A place of soaring mountains, smoldering volcanoes, and valleys 7,000 feet deeper than Everest is high, where tectonic plates collide and separate, and extraordinary life forms operate under different rules.
Tangled Vines: Power, Privilege, and the Murdaugh Family Murders
On June 7th, 2021, prominent attorney Alex Murdaugh discovered the bodies of his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul, on the grounds of their thousand-acre hunting lodge. The mystery deepened only months later when Alex himself was discovered shot in the head on a local roadside. But as authorities scrambled for clues, dark secrets about this Southern legal dynasty came to light. The Murdaughs were feared as much as they were loved. As more suspicious deaths were linked to the Murdaughs, a new portrait of Alex Murdaugh emerged: a desperate man on the brink of ruin who would do anything to save his family’s reputation.
Valiant Women: The Extraordinary American Servicewomen Who Helped Win World War II
Valiant Women is the story of the 350,000 American women who served in uniform during World War II. They were pilots, codebreakers, ordnance experts, gunnery instructors, metalsmiths, chemists, translators, parachute riggers, truck drivers, radarmen, pigeon trainers, and much more. They were directly involved in some of the most important moments of the war, from the D-Day landings to the peace negotiations in Paris. These women—who hailed from every race, creed, and walk of life—died for their country and received the nation’s highest honors. Their work, both individually and in total, was at the heart of the Allied strategy that won World War II. Yet, until now, their stories have been relegated to the dusty shelves of military archives or a passing mention in the local paper.

The library website is terrible. There should be an easy way to peruse new books and there isn’t. Very user unfriendly, too much I, as a reader, really don’t care about.

Hello Don,
The website highlights our newest additions. We also have our new books listed at the top of the library catalog along with special book exhibits created based on special holidays, events or celebrations (for example, June is Pride Month). To see our newest books more easily, simply click on “**SEARCH OWWL CATALOG** shown first in our menu of website sections. Once you click on it, you will be brought to our catalog. Directly under the search bar for the catalog, you will see a slider menu with book collections such as: “Pride @ MAC,” “New Nonfiction & Biography @ MAC,” etc. If you use the arrow to the left, you can slide all the way over to “New Adult Books @ Macedon.” Click on it to have a list of our newest additions populate your page in the form of book covers. If you see a cover that interests you, simply click on it to be given a short synopsis of the book, the formats the book is available in, and whether a copy is currently available or not. You will be able to place a hold (request) on the book, too, if the copy at the Macedon Public Library has been checked out. If you will see a navy blue box that says, “Place Hold.” Click this and then you will be prompted to give your library card barcode number and pin number. If you do not know what your pin number is, please let us know the next time you come to the library so we can help you.
I hope you find this helpful. If you have more questions, please call the library at 315-986-5932. We will be happy to help you attain the best experience possible!
