New Teen Books: Thursday, August 10

Teen books are very popular with teens, of course—and with adults, too, who love the character-rich, fast-paced stories that are common in this genre. Check out a few of the latest teen books in the Macedon Library, and stop by sometime soon to check out one or two for your own reading pleasure.

The Sea in You

15-year-old Corinth was just trying to clean up the beach; she never expected to meet a mermaid, let alone be nearly drowned by one. It was the start of a very strange friendship! After Skylla, the deadly fanged mermaid, mysteriously lets Corinth live, they grow closer through a cautious exchange of stories, gifts, jokes, and sign language. Mermaids, it turns out, eat people. Bewitched by Corinth and their growing bond, she learns about all the best things in life on land. But a storm is brewing – and a magical bargain may be the only thing that can save her, at a tremendous cost.

Reign or Shine

Unruly Princess Chrisithia (who goes by Chris) longs for friendship and adventure. What she gets is a bunch of fluffy pink dresses and a lonely existence in an isolated castle. She wants more for her life than to be an ornament, but the only thing expected of her is to marry as soon as she is old enough. That all changes when she meets a prince at a party and…falls in love? Nope. Learns sword fighting from him. After she and her new friend Kedrik have a fateful encounter with the Intriguer—a mysterious magical entity intent on abducting royals—Chris realizes she must become far stronger if she is to defend herself and others.

Invisible Son

Life can change in an instant: when you’re wrongfully accused of a crime. When a virus shuts everything down. When the girl you love moves on. Andre Jackson is determined to reclaim his identity. But returning from juvie doesn’t feel like coming home. Andre’s suspicions about his arrest for a crime he didn’t commit taint his friendships. It’s as if his whole life has been erased. The one thing Andre is counting on is his relationship with the Whitaker kids—especially his longtime crush, Sierra. But Sierra’s brother Eric is missing, and the facts don’t add up as their adoptive parents fight to keep up the act that their racially diverse family is picture-perfect.
