Books for Juneteenth

On Monday, June 19, the Macedon Public Library will be closed in honor of Juneteenth, our newest federal holiday. What is Juneteenth about? Simply put, it is a day that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the U.S. Although it was only made a federal holiday in 2021, it has been celebrated since 1866. Our Pioneer Library System has books for both adults and children on this holiday. Why not check them out?

Juneteenth (children’s book)

Juneteenth celebrates the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States. Across the country, people observe the day with speeches, poetry readings, festivals, picnics, street fairs, and family reunions. It is a day for people to come together and continue working toward equality. Readers will discover how a shared holiday can have multiple traditions and be celebrated in all sorts of ways. For ages 5-8.

On Juneteenth
