Macedon Library Featured in New Book

A new book published by the American Library Association has a Macedon connection: the Macedon Public Library is prominently featured in Libraries That Build Business: Advancing Small Business and Entrepreneurship in Public Libraries.

Macedon’s library is highlighted for its Entrepreneur Workshop Series, a regular event at the library that was developed in conjunction with SCORE (Service Core of Retired Executives). The series exists to give community members the information, tools, and support they need to have a successful shot at building a small business.

Since 2015, the Entrepreneur Workshop Series has been presented at the library five times, with 37 participants total. Nearly 30 percent of these individuals have gone on to successfully launch a business. The book highlights one of these participants: Melinda Kelsey, who, with her husband Rob, founded the Kitten Around cat boarding facility after she took the workshop series.

“A workshop series like this, with your peers to bounce ideas off of, mentors to guide you, and speakers to inspire you, is a great way to begin,” she says. “Libraries are the perfect place to have a program like this.”

Are you interested in starting your own business? Would you like some help, and maybe even some financial support? Macedon Public Library will once again be holding a program to help budding entrepreneurs, both teens and adults, prepare for the Wayne County Small Business Kick Start Initiative coming in the fall. One new business will win $20,000 in the initiative, and both adult and student participants will receive support from SCORE members and information. Watch this space for more information about Macedon Library’s programming related to the pitch contest in the coming months.
