Bridge Building 101:
Kids age 12 to 14 years of age can come and help build a real six foot steel and concrete bridge! During the class sessions, learn the basics of bridge design, including loading and stresses.
Help layout the bridge using basic surveying, and excavate for the structure footers, drive miniature piles, build forms for the bridge footers, abutments and wing walls, and mix and pour the concrete forms.
Then erect and assemble the bridge framing steel, and then form and pour the concrete deck.
Finally, build up the earth approaches to the bridge, and erect bridge rail. This class is a great way to learn the basics of bridge building from design right through construction. This special program requires an application process.
Pick up an application at the library. Deadline to apply has been extended to Wednesday, June 21.
